study techniques

Some nice thoughts on study techniques - I wish I had this list when I was at school. Although it is unlikely I would have read it, yet alone followed it when I was at school.

Perhaps there are some hints there that I can apply to my studing for my masters.

“Here I study”
Get a dedicated space, chair, table, lighting and environment
Avoid your cellphone or telephone
Put up a sign to avoid being disturbed or interrupted
If you like music in the background, OK, but don’t let it be a distraction. (Research on productivity with music versus without music is inconclusive)

One of my tasks for my return from holidays is to clean up the study at home. I have way to much stuff in the office and I need to be ruthless in throwing out old computer equipment. I need to apply David Allen’s GTD processes to my home setup. In particular the idea of cleaning up the work space.

A challenge is that I share the space with my wife - but, hey you can’t have everything. Although it used to make for interesting “discussions” when I worked from home and was more pedantic about the study set up. Since moving to a office the study resembles more a junk room than anything else.
