ipod programs

Seeing as I have a new ipod mini, I have been doing a bit of research on the programs out there to take advantage of this very cool piece of technology. I mainly use my ipod for podcasts as I am not into music in a big way. Hopefully some of these programs will be useful for fellow ipod users out there.

Ephpod
I heard about this program from James Kendrick on the tech addiction podcast. It is a free program that basically reads the data on your ipod and allows you to add and delete songs from your ipod.

There is a whole range of other functionality built in, such as the abilty to add all your outlook contacts, grab news headlines. It can also repair damaged file structures on your ipod which is a nice feature.

Anapod
This program can run on windows 98SE/ME/2000 and XP. This makes it good for those that have old pc’s. A friend of mine wanted to run her ipod on a machine running 98 and for a year she thought she would have to get a new pc. This program will solve that problem. Just don’t forget to down the 98SE usb support drivers from www.microsoft.com

Yamipod
This is known as one of the best iTunes alternatives. It allows you to copy to and from your ipod. It has a nice feature that can capture the lyrics from the net for your songs.

Vpod
This is a open source iTunes alternative for your ipod.

For me so far, ephpod seems the way to go. It just seems to be more stable than itunes. Nevertheless, it would be nice if I could automatically add my podcasts to my ipod when it is connected. This seems to me to be the big disadvantage of itunes.
