Seems that Microsoft read my post on how longhorn must look very cool :) This post by Kozman Online gives some interesting detail on Longhorn as it was revealed at the recent 2005 Windows Hardware Engineering Conference.

The OS’s new graphics engine, code-named Avalon, uses the power of today’s graphics chips to produce stunning effects, such as so-called aero glass transparency, which allows content from one window to show through parts of the window on top of it. Animated icons and shading effects available in Longhorn dramatically enhance traditional Windows elements, too.
