iTunes 4.9 to handle podcasts

iTunes 4.9 to handle podcasts

Steve Jobs, speaking at the D: all things digital conference, said that the next version of iTunes will handle podcasts a la Doppler. Content providers will be able to register their content with the iTunes Music Store where users will be able to sign up to retrieve the feeds for their favorite podcasts.

(via Six Apart)

I would like to see a re-think of the whole concept regarding podcasts for Itunes and Ipods. For instance, I really like the way when I read email or read blog posts in my rss reader I know where I am upto. In other words, I like the way the software automatically tags the item as read.

Can we have the same facility with podcasts?

When I listen to a podcast on my ipod can we somehow mark it as ‘read’ or perhaps more accurately as listened’. Putting aside my memory which sometimes is flaky, I have no way of knowing if I have listened to a podcast or not. My memory should not be required and the software should be intelligent enough to take care of this.

Perhaps there is someway already to do this that I am unaware of, and if anyone knows how, please let me know.

I currently use Ipodder to subscribe and download my podcasts and then ephpod to synchronise my podcasts with my ipod.
