OK, I have finally fixed the problem. The problem that I have had with my new notebook is that every time I hit the apostrophe key (single quote) I would get two. It was frankly driving me crazy!

Harvey Norman technical guys advice was to reinstall the operating system. Ah, I remember the days of technical support. When you didn’t know the answer to the question we used to joke that the easiest answer was “coldstart and restore”. Ah, they were the days.

I was keen to avoid restoring everything as it would require a whole day (at least) of me being out of action with the computer. So, I went hunting.

Google search on the web and a google search on their groups was not as fruitful as I expected. So, I followed the Harvey Norman’s guy other advise to explore the keyboard settings.

After fiddling around, I removed the US keyboard and installed an Australian one. Wonder of all wonders it worked.

So, my question is: why do Americans require a double quote when you are only hitting the key once. Weird I say!
