Mind mapping

I have been using mind manager for a couple of weeks now and I must say that I am very impressed. The visual data representation is a huge leap in the right direction for software applications. For some time now I have been frustrated that most of the visual enhancement in computing has been in the user interface – icons, widgets and the like. We need more software that builds connection points between data in a graphical way.

Marc Orchant pointed out in my last post on mindmanager that if I was going to use it for my GTD processes it would be worthwhile checking out ResultsManager. I had downloaded ResultsManager in the past and simply had not “got it”. This time, and probably because I had spent more time using mindmanager, I have found it to be a wonderful piece of software. I am still learning and I am hoping that the trial period doesn’t run out before I can make my mind up about the way this can help me manage my projects and next actions.

I have started to evangelise the produce to friends and the like, simply because it has made an immediate difference to me. The uses of it seem to be endless – task management, project oveview, creative thinking, meeting notes, presentation preparation etc etc. Very very cool!

For those who have expressed concern about the price or the fact that it is a windows only program. I point out the open source project called freemind. But, I think the outlook synchronisation in the professional version of mindmanager will be a must have for me.

But, I am still trialling…more to come later.
