sony mp3 walkman

Had a walk at lunch and took the opportunity to have a close squiz at the new Sony MP3 hard drive walkman. See reviews here and here (with video and pictures). Retails at $479 according to the sony website, but I saw it for about $440. MP3 direct lists it at $462 which brings it in cheaper than the IRiver H320 ($488) and competitive with the Ipod 20GB colour ($444).

One big advantage over both the Iriver and the Ipod is that it is a lot smaller than both of them. And it looks very pretty - important to compete at least with the ipod. The main hangup with the reviews seems to be that music can only be transferred through SonicStage - which seems pretty unsatisfactory to most. A reported 40 hour battery life may make up for the lack of extra features such as fm tuner and voice recorder available on models like the Iriver.
