xint
Snapfiles has a small review of a interesting contender in that never ending search for the perfect notepad replacement. They review a program called xint that is offered as freeware and write:
Xint is an alternative to Windows notepad, that looks very similar, but in fact offers dozens of additional features. They include additional formatting options (URL encoding, CSV conversion, HTML stripping, A-Z sorting), as well as browser preview, word count, case conversions and more. Xint also includes an enhanced search and replace features, a hex color picker, date insert and more. In addition, the program even includes a built-in encryption feature, allowing you to secure a file, using 160-bit Twofish encryption.

There has been some discussion over at 43folders over the idea of managing GTD processes in one big text file. Perhaps xint can help out here – particular with the encryption option that is built in and will allow the user to keep their precious data secured.
