Synch Files the Easy Way

Preston Gralla, author of Internet Annoyances has a post that may go somewhere to solve the problems I envisaged when I get a tablet pc. The idea of going back to two computers was making me nervous as I simply love the simplicity of having everything I work with, and the way I like it set up with me all the time. However, perhaps the new Microsoft synchtoy app might be the solution. This way I will basically use my sony vaio as my primary computer and use a tablet pc in meetings and when I am out and about.

It might seem strange to use a top line notebook as primary computer when I am at my desk and a tablet at other times. But, I am thinking that the fact that I spend considerable time at three locations where I need a good notebook (with power and features) and to get that type of power and features in a tablet is quite expensive. So this way, keep my sony and buy a tablet – even second hand – maybe, a toshiba m200.

‘Synch Files the Easy Way

I have a laptop and desktop PC, and I spend far too much time synchronizing files and folders between them. If I’m heading to my local cafe and Hot Spot, I transfer work from my desktop to my laptop so I can work away from home. Then, when I return, I copy the changed files back to my desktop.

Needless, to say, annoyances abound. It’s not just spending far too much time doing this that annoys me — I also accidentally overwrite new files with old ones, and my work goes out the window.

I’ve just found an easy fix for the annoyance — a free Microsoft Power Toy called SyncToy. Download and install the free utliity, and in just a few clicks you’ll be able to automatically synchronize files and folders in a snap. There are all kinds of ways you can customize using it, but the bottom line is this: There’s no simpler and safer way to transfer and synchronize files between PCs.’
