Evernote plus 1.0

PC Magazine have a review of Evernote plus that is worth reading. There are other more powerful products out there to do this type of thing. But the price is right – free atleast for the cut down version!

“Getting organized and staying that way is a major undertaking. EverNote Plus 1.0 can help. You’ll have to commit to its way of doing things, but its free-form nature lets even disorganized pack rats find what they’re looking for. We first reviewed the public beta of EverNote, and the standard version of the official 1.0 release is still free. The $34.95 Plus version (which we tested) adds a few features that die-hard devotees will find worth considering, but for most users the free version should suffice.

The key to EverNote is that it uses a continuous, scrolling tape as its organizational metaphor. When you add a note, it is automatically time- and date-stamped and added to the end of the tape. You can create notes using the keyboard or electronic ink; the program supports a wide variety of input pens and digitizers and works well with Tablet PCs. (EverNote is developing versions for both Pocket PC and Palm OS platforms.) You can also drag a variety of file types from Windows Explorer and drop them into notes, or grab content from a Web site.”

I must admit that I just couldn’t get mind around the tape concept of storing my information. Just didn’t work for me but worth a look.

I also did the same thing … spent about month trying to integrate Evernote’s nice interface and great concept into my GTD system … lets just say it didn’t work. It IS working as a sort of searchable filing system, but I have found it cumbersome (I work on 3 different PCs, office, mobile and home) and kep the Evernote DB on my thumb drive but still … the metaphor just didn’t quite fit (despite using the GTD templates and all). Oh well, back to the moleskine, I’ll just have to wait until I can afford a tablet pc.
