Sanyo HDP m3000

Sanyo has jumped into the portable MP3 market with this offering of the Sanyo HDP M3000:

Hear that? That’s the distant sound of elves furiously packing Santa’s sleigh to the brim with iPod nano’s. Yep, there’s no doubting the fact that Apple’s ultra-slim tunester will be the most popular Christmas gadget of 2005. So with this in mind you’d think small fry like Sanyo’s new HDP-M3000 don’t stand a chance. But here’s the thing. If you’re after a high-capacity MP3 player that’s barely going to dink your wallet, MP3 players like this are definitely worth a quick squiz.

However, according to the article the main advantage of the player is its price - at 6GB it is half the price of the 2GB Nano. It doesn’t look too shabby and apparently has a battery life of 12 hours. I am convinced that the only way that the iPod’s domination is to be challenged is if other people compete both on look and on price. When I bought my iPod, many of the comparable offerings were more expensive. They offered more features, but they were features I ultimately didn’t feel were worth it.
