“When the Government announced the analog mobile phone system would be switched off in 2000, an estimated 2.6 million Australians were forced to move to secondgeneration digital services.
With the 2G technology came clearer phone lines and SMS.
Not many people would want to go back to the old system, but don’t get too comfortable just yet.
The third generation of mobile phone networks and services, known as 3G, are here and they’re offering more than ever.
The main selling point of 3G is the speed of the service, which theoretically allows for transmissions up to two megabits per second.”
