twiiter phishing attack

January 4th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in twitter

I was almost a victim of the twitter phishing attack today… while I was clicking the link, I was multi-tasking and almost entered my twitter user name and password. But I just stopped in time - beware!

Download Squad writes:

“Phishers are up to the same old tricks, with a new target: your Twitter password. Several Twitter users received a direct message today that included a Blogspot link purporting to be about “a funny blog about you!” They clicked on it and found themselves redirected to a spoofed Twitter login page that grabs passwords and may use your account to propagate the phishing messages to more users.”

add your twitter contacts to friendfeed

I am giving this a go, as I get more and more into friendfeed.

I’ve written a program that uses Google’s social graph to find the links between Twitter users and Friend Feed users. Download the program, run it, enter your passwords and watch it find and subscribe to all of your Tweeps on Friend Feed.

It keeps track of who it has added over time. If you unsubscribe from someone using the web interface, they won’t be added again by the program.

ways to get more twitter followers

Guy Kawasaki has written an article on how to pick up followers on twitter. I found his tips very helpful as I learn this new medium.

He opens with an interesting anecdote of his experience of using twitter to get help on a real life problem:

“At 10:15 pm I discovered that I had not brought a Macbook power supply
on the trip. I was in a hotel on Coronado Island, and early the next
morning I was flying to an aircraft carrier off San Diego for an overnight visit.
I doubted that the carrier had Macbook power supplies laying around, so
I was in trouble. I posted a message to Twitter that I was in this
predicament, and within ten minutes, five people offered to bring me a
power supply. I took one of them up on the offer, and he
delivered it to me within an hour. “

I have started to use twitter fairly regularly now. I actually signed up some time ago but it is during this second attempt that I am starting to get it. The first time around it just seemed a poor excuse for a blogging platform or even cool technology that was looking for a practical use and a reason for its invention.

Well this time, something has clicked and I am really enjoying it.

Here is a great article that has some 101 twitter resources.

“It seems like every day I see more and more being written about Twitter.
I have to admit that I don’t really get the fascination with micro
blogging, but it’s becoming more and more common, and many bloggers
find the services to be extremely useful for connecting with their
audience. With all of the information that I’ve been seeing on Twitter,
I decided to put together this collection of resources.”
